JAMB UTME Subject Combination

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Home Economics under the Faculty of Agriculture in the institutions listed above are:

Chemistry, Biology/Agriculture and Mathematics/Physics or one Social Science subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNAAB requires Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Home Economicsas a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes in Chemistry, Biology/Agric Science, Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any one of Nutrition, Fine Arts, Textile, Construction,Technical Drawing, Basic Electricity, Basic Catering and Food Services, Bakery and Confectioneries, General Metal Work, Men Garment Construction and Finishing, Spinning, Weaving, Surface Design and Printing, Bleaching, Dyeing and Finishing, Ladies Garment Construction and Finishing.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) OAU accepts Physics, Geography. Home/ Management., Statistics. Economics, B/Studies, Zoology, Commerce or any of the following pairs Chem and Biology., Chemistry and Agriculture and Chemistry and Economics.

(ii) UNIUYO accepts five merit passes in TC II in relevant subjects.

(iii) MOUAU accepts:
a) For Home Economics – Same as in Agriculture.
b) For Hotel Management and tourism, it requires five O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and any of Physics, Economics and Government.

(iv) FUAM accepts P7 in English Language.

(v) UNILORIN requires at least a pass in Physics and Biology.

(vi) BELLS accept a pass in Physics

(vii) UNIOSUN requires Five ‘O’ Level credit passes in the SSCE or its equivalent at not more than two sittings in addition to an acceptable credit pass in the UME.

(viii) UNAAB REQUIRES five (5) credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

(ix) CRUTECH accepts one Social Science subject (Economics or Accounting/Commerce) in place of Food and Nutrition/Home Economics.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Home Economics as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalents in Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Agricultural Science/Economics/Physics/Mathematics/Geography/Accounting.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNIUYO accepts (upper credit) and HND (lower credit) and NCE (merit) in relevant fields plus UTME requirements.

(ii) MOUAU requires ‘A’ level pass in Chemistry and
Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agricultural Science

(iii)OAU accepts NCE in Home Economics/Biology/Chemistry/Agric Science with five merit/credit passes in TC II in the following subjects: Social Studies, Maths, Agric Science, General Studies, Fine Arts, Geography and Rural Science.

(iv) UNILORIN requires at least ‘A’ pass in Physics, accepts NCE holders with relevant five ‘O’ level credit passes.

(v) UNAAB accepts ND (minimum of upper credit) and NCE (minimum of Credit) in Hospitality and Tourism, Catering Management, Hotel Management Home Economics from a recognized Institution in addition to UTME requirements.
