JAMB UTME Subject Combination

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study English Language under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the institutions listed above are:

Literature in-English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) FULOKOJA and ABU require Lit.-in-English and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ii) ADELEKE and SAU require Lit.-in-English, Government/History or any other Arts subjects.

(iii) BU does not accept Social Science subjects.

(iv) FUD accepts two Arts subjects and any other Arts or Social Science subject.

(v) FUD also accepts English Language, Mathematics, and Literature in English.

(vi) JSU accepts any two Arts subjects and one other Arts or Social Science subject.

(vii) SSU accepts at least two Arts subjects and any other Social Science subject.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for English Language as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) BSU and UNIJOS accept TCII at merit level.

(ii) CU requires a credit in Mathematics and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(iii) BUK require at least one other Arts subject.

(iv) FUL and UNILAG require five ‘O’ level credit passes to include Literature in English, English Language, Mathematics and one other Arts subjects.

(v) UNILORIN accepts any Arts / Social Science subjects

(vi) UNIPORT requires Literature in English.

(vii) FUD and RUN accept a pass in Mathematics.

(viii) UMYUK requires five O/Level credit passes in SSCE or its equivalent including English Language, English Literature and any other three credits from Arts or Social Science and a pass in Mathematics in not more than two sittings.

(ix) AJAYI requires credit passes must include English Language, Literature in English, another Arts subject and any other two subjects.

(x) BIU requires the three ‘O’ Level subjects to come from either Arts or Social Science.

(xi) OAU requires Five “O” level credit passes to include Literature-in-English and English Language and one other Arts subject plus any other subject.

(xii) ABU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes to include Lit. in English , English Language and any other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(xiii) RUN requires Five ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Literature-in-English and at least a pass in Mathematics.

(xiv) BUK requires five O’ Level Credit passes to include Literature in English, English language plus three other Arts subjects

(xv) KWASU accepts credit passes in English Language, Literature in English plus three Arts subjects or English Language, Literature in English, two Arts subjects and one science subject or English Language, Literature in English, two social science subjects and one Arts subject.

(xvi) UNIUYO requires a credit in Mathematics and other two subjects.

(xvii) FUD accepts five SSCE Credit passes to include English, Mathematics, and two Arts subjects and one Social Sciences. English Literature is an added advantage.

(xviii) JSU accepts five SSCE Credit passes to include English, one Arts subjects and another Arts or Social Science subject.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for English Language as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes to include Lit.-in-English and one other Arts subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) UNILAG does not accept less than grade D in Literature in English.

(ii) ADELEKE, ANSU, UNILORIN, UNIMAID, UDU and UNIJOS accept NCE with English major.

(iii) PUNIPORT – no direct entry.

(iv) UNIUYO requires minimum of 9 points which may be from two of three GCE ‘A’ level subjects (or the equivalents, such as relevant NCE subjects to be passed at the GCE ‘A’ level) must be English Language and Literature in English.

(v) UNILAG requires Mathematics and the other Arts subject to be chosen from Religious Studies, French, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa.

(vi) AJAYI accept NCE (Merit) in Literature in English.

(vii) UNILORIN accepts ND/and any Social Science subject.

(viii) AAU accepts National Diploma (at credit level) in Mass Communication.

(ix) NSUK accepts NCE English not below Merit level.

(x) UMYUK accepts NCE in relevant subject in addition to five credits O/Level in not more than two sittings.

(xi) TASU and UNILORIN accept NCE with English Major.

(xii) AJAYI accepts two ‘A’ level passes (or equivalents) in Literature in English, one other Arts subject plus three ‘O’ level credit passes.

(xiii) BIU requires in addition to the O’ level requirements specified, a minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level or NCE (3 merits) or National Diploma in relevant field not below credit level.

(xiv) UNIOSUN accepts Two ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English and other Arts subjects or NCE in English/and any other Arts subjects.

(xv) ABU accepts two ‘A’ level papers including English at IJMB/ NCE.General English/Use of English at NCE satisfies’ O’ level English requirement.

(xvi) KWASU accepts NCE with English major.

(xvii) LASU accepts Two ‘A’ level/NCE passes to include Literature in English and one other Arts subject.

(xviii) AL-HIKMAH accepts two A’ level passes to include Literature in English.

(xix) FUD accepts two A’ Level passes to include English and also accepts minimum of nine points.
