This part of the JAMB brochure shows you the requirements to apply for Arabic Language under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Nigeria. You will see the UTME subject combination needed to apply for the course, O’level requirements for UTME candidates, requirements such A’level, ND, HND, NCE, etc for Direct Entry candidates, as well as other information you require to successfully apply for the course.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Arabic Language under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the institutions listed above are:

Arabic and Two subjects from Arts and/or Social Sciences.

(i) KWASU requires two other Art subjects.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Arabic Language as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Arabic and three other relevant subjects.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) LASU accepts Islamic Studies in lieu of Arabic or accepts candidates who indicate interest in Foreign Language learning and possess basic knowledge or Arabic may be admitted.

(ii) UDU accept pass in English Language, NCE General English and a certificate in High Muslim Certificate.

(iii) LASU accepts Certificate from recognized Arabic Institution who might have not written Arabic at SSCE ‘O’ level.

(iv) IBADAN requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Arabic Studies and 3 or 4 other subjects in Arts/Social Science.

(v) ILORIN accepts any other subject in lieu of Arabic.

(vi) UMYUK requires five credit passes at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Arabic, Islamic Studies and two other relevant Arts\Social Science courses and a pass in Mathematics.

(vii) KASU and UMYUK may accept Higher Islamic Studies or Senior Islamic Studies Results.

(viii) KWASU requires credit passes in English, Arabic, IRS, plus any other two Arts subjects. A certificate from a recognized Arabic school will be acceptable in lieu of O’ level Arabic

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Arabic Language as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: Two ‘A’ level passes in Arabic and any other Art subject.

Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks

(i) ABU accepts: 
(a) NCE in Arabic with a minimum of Merit Pass. 
(b) General English/Use of English at NCE satisfies’ O’ level English requirement.

(ii) LASU accepts: 
(a) Two ‘A’ Level Passes in Arabic and any other Arts subject plus five other related Arts subject at GCE ‘O’ Level or SSCE Examinations 
(b) Holders of Certificate issued by recognized Arabic Institution who may not have written Arabic at SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level will be considered for admission subject to the fulfillment of other entry requirements NCE (Arabic) at Merit level is also acceptable.

(iii) ILORIN accepts NCE (merit) in Arabic or Social Science subject.

(iv) ILORIN Considers candidates who do not offer Arabic at UTME but meet UTME entry requirements may be admitted into 100 level.

(vii) KWASU accepts IJMB, Cambridge and NCE and SISC.

(viii) SOSU and IBADAN accept NCE (merit) in Arabic and other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ix) ABUJA accepts a minimum of 10 points in NCE or Upper credit in National Diploma in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements.
